Certification Process for Individuals
 
BNQ 9800-010 certification program for cooks, pastrycooks, chefs and pastry chefs

The BNQ offers a certification program for cooks, pastrycooks, chefs and pastry chefs so they can, on a continuous basis, have their training, experience and ability recognized in relation to the standard, BNQ 9800-010.

The conformity certificate issued is valid for a period of four years.

CANDIDATE CERTIFICATION PROCESS

 
 
WHO CAN BE CERTIFIED?
 
The standard applies to cooks, pastrycooks, chefs and pastry chefs that perform their trade for food services.

TO SUBMIT YOUR CANDIDATURE: :

  1. Become familiar with the following two documents that are available in French. The following documents in PDF format are available in the Section Documents free of charge.

    • The BNQ standard 9800-010/2003 Reconnaissance des compétences - Métiers de cuisinier, de pâtissier, de chef cuisinier et de chef pâtissier
    • The BNQ document 9800-910/2004 Reconnaissance des compétences - Métiers de cuisinier, de pâtissier, de chef cuisinier et de chef pâtissier - Protocole de certification


  2. Follow the instructions concerning the procedures outlined in the document BNQ 9800-910/2004 Reconnaissance des compétences - Métiers de cuisinier, de pâtissier, de chef cuisinier et de chef pâtissier - Protocole de certification.


  3. Ensure that you have included all the documents needed for certification in your candidature file before submitting your application.


  4. Complete the information on the application form Détails sur la candidature (PDF) to be returned to the BNQ.


  5. Sign sections A and B of the certification contract (PDF) to be returned to the BNQ.




  6. Send your application to the BNQ accompanied by all the documents to be included, as stipulated in the standard and certification protocol. Reference letters accompanying the application must contain the first and last name of the person signing the letter, his or her position in the company and his or her phone number.

NOTE. --- In the case of the chefs and pastry chefs, the reference letters must specify the number of hours worked and enumerate the responsibilities of the candidate. Half of the hours devoted to these tasks during last 8 years of work by the candidate must correspond to the higher responsibilities described in the standard.
