Conformity assessment – General requirements for the production of reference materials

Reference materials are used at all stages of the measurement process for calibration purposes or to validate methods. They are also used during proficiency testing (ISO/IEC 17043). Certified values issued by reference material producers provide the metrological traceability required by the standard ISO/IEC 17025.The demonstration of scientific and technical expertise by reference material producers serves to guarantee the quality of the materials.

All reference material producers seeking to become accredited may call upon the BNQ which has established a partnership with the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) to offer assessment services to obtain a recommendation for accreditation pursuant to standards ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 17043 and ISO 17034. Assessments of certified reference material producers carried out by the BNQ serve to establish the sought-after level of performance and ensure recognition at the international level.
