National Standard on Psychological Health and Safety
in the Workplace
On January
16th the National Standard of Canada
entitled - Psychological Health and Safety in the
Workplace — Prevention, promotion and guidance to
staged implementation (CAN/CSA-Z1003-13/BNQ
9700-803/2013) was launched in Toronto. This
Standard was developed jointly by the Bureau de
normalization du Quebec BNQ and CSA Group at the
request of the Commission for Mental Health Canada.
This
voluntary Standard is a tool to guide organizations
to improve workplace psychological health and safety
and can be used differently by different businesses
and organizations depending on their needs. The
Standard focuses on prevention of mental illness and
promotion of mental health in the workplace. It is
intended to help promote good mental health and
prevent harm for all employees, whether or not they
have a mental illness.
The Standard
is available at no cost through the BNQ (www.bnq.qc.ca)
and CSA (www.shopcsa.ca)
websites, where a pdf copy can be immediately
downloaded following a brief registration. Although
the Standard is be offered at no cost, it is subject
to copyright. We ask that anyone who would like a
copy of the Standard register and download it so we
can track distribution and send any updates, if
necessary.
