Québec’s standardization agency, Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ), has been involved in the Québec agro-food sector for decades and has recently begun certifying food-packaging manufacturing companies according to Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC 22000) international standards.

Today’s consumers have a heightened awareness of safety issues related to food packaging, which means companies have a stake in proving their operations comply with strict hygiene and food safety criteria.

So nowadays, manufacturers of food packaging made from plastics, paper, cardboard, metal, or glass can request BNQ certification in accordance with the FSSC 22000 protocol. Upon the successful completion of this process companies are awarded a certificate that proves they have implemented advanced controls to ensure the safety of the packaging materials they produce. In doing so they comply with the regulations in force and customer requirements.
