Soils - Determination of In-Place Density of Soil Using a Flexible Membrane (Water Volume)

This national standard specifies a test method used to determine the in-place density of soils. This procedure is more suitable for soils containing particles with a diameter of 80 mm or greater. The standard also sets out requirements regarding four main elements:

  • apparatus (ring, membrane, reservoirs, scales, water content equipment and other equipment);
  • procedure (test site, determination of initial volume and determination of density);
  • calculating and expressing the results (calculating the initial volume, final volume, volume of soil excavated, and density of wet and dry soil);
  • test report.

    This edition reaffirms (reapproves) the edition dated March 20, 2017, which now includes Amendment No. 1 dated April 21, 2022. Consequently, this edition is equivalent to the previous edition. The edition number of this English version was corrected to match that of the French version. Therefore, it has been incremented from the fourth edition to the sixth edition.
