ASTM F1871

Standard ASTM F1504
Standard Specification for Folded Poly(Vinyl Chloride) Pipe for Existing Sewer and Conduit Rehabilitation

In the management of municipal infrastructures, existing sewers and conduits need to be replaced when they break or when they reach the end of their service life. Along with the conventional open trench method, there are trenchless rehabilitation techniques. The F1504 Standard developed by ASTM International relates to test methods and requirements for ensuring the quality of factory-made products intended for use at a work site where trenchless rehabilitation of existing sewers and conduits is taking place.

The principle behind this technique is as follows. At the factory, a PVC pipe of a specified diameter (based on the diameter of the conduit to be rehabilitated) is extruded, folded under heat and coiled onto a large reel. At the site, the folded pipe is inserted into the conduit, reheated using steam and formed under pressure until it provides a close fit to the wall of the existing conduit. It is then cooled.

Certification Offer

BNQ certification of factory-made folded pipes based on the requirements of the ASTM F1504 Standard enables manufacturers to assure clients of the quality of their products. Clients do not need to inspect companies since they know that third-party certification ensures the neutrality of the process.

Manufacturers seeking recognition of the compliance of their pipes with the requirements of the ASTM F1504 Standard must apply to the BNQ for certification and must be able to establish that they meet the requirements of the BNQ certification program.
