PEFC Standard

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) offers producers a good, competitive range of references for evaluating the chain of custody and the labelling system that provides customers with information and assurances as to the origin and authenticity of the forest products offered and provides assurances that products originate from sustainably managed forests, recycled materials and other non-controversial sources. Purchasers can use this information to select products on the basis of sustainability and other criteria. The PEFC program, like that of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). In fact, it is possible to obtain joint SFI-PEFC certification by combining the PEFC requirements with those of the SFI, to obtain joint authorization to use the SFI forest product labels as well as those of the PEFC, which are highly recognized in Europe, Asia, the Americas and Australia.

Certification Offer

The certification offered by the BNQ enables organizations to demonstrate that meet the requirements of the PEFC chain of custody program. These requirements describe the process for associating information on the organization’s products with raw material supply information. The PEFC forest product chain of custody reference, for purposes of certification, sets out two optional approaches for chain of custody, namely the physical separation method and the percentage based method.

This certification program is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada.
