PE Pipe – Transport of fluids under pressure

pe pipes transporting fluids under pressure

BNQ 3624-027
Polyethylene (PE) Pipe for the Transport of Fluids Under Pressure

Manufacturers of pipe used in the conveyance of fluids under pressure must meet high quality standards to ensure buyer satisfaction. In this regard, the BNQ 3624-027 standard is essential. This standard specifies the characteristics and test methods applicable to solid-wall high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe having hydrostatic design basis greater or equal to 11 MPa. It applies to pipe designated by outside diameters, belonging to three dimension ranges: CTS (copper tube size), IPS (iron pipe size) and DIPS (ductile iron pipe size). Such pipe designed for the transport of fluids under pressure, whether or not the fluids are loaded with solid particles. Such pipe is used specifically for raw water, drinking water and wastewater pipelines, for industrial and mining piping and for geothermal needs. The standard specifies the characteristics and test methods and provides indications concerning the classification and designation of pipes, marking and handling.

General requirements:

  • Manufacturing material;
  • Compound hydrostatic design basis and compound thermal stability;
  • Pipe characteristics;
  • Jointing of pipe.

Special requirements:

  • Solar radiation resistance;
  • Safety of products in contact with drinking water;
  • Dimensional characteristics;
  • Mechanical and thermomechanical characteristics (pressure strength of pipe, long-time sustained pressure strength, high-temperature sustained pressure strength, verification of the quality of the inside surface of the pipe wall).

Mark of conformityCertification Offer

Compliance with the requirements of BNQ 3624-027 ensures the quality of manufactured products but also guarantees product conformity for the benefit of buyers. The certification program based on this standard includes all of the requirements set out in four documents, including the BNQ 3624-907 certification protocol.

The BNQ 3624-907 protocol establishes the certification requirements, procedural rules and marking requirements applicable to the certification of polyethylene (PE) pipe and fittings in accordance with the requirements of BNQ 3624-027. It is intended for pipe manufacturers interested in having the BNQ recognize the conformity of their pipe and fittings and for clients who wish to use the certification protocol. To have their pipe and fittings certified, manufacturers must submit an application to the BNQ and show that they comply with the requirements of the certification program.

This certification program is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada.
