ASTM D3517

Standard ASTM D3517
Specification for "Fiberglass" (Glass-Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting-Resin) Pressure Pipe

This specification covers machine-made fiberglass pressure pipe, 200 mm [8 in.] to 4000 mm [156 in.], intended for use in water conveyance systems operating at internal gage pressures of 3103 kPa [450 psi] or less. This standard is suited primarily for pipes to be installed in buried applications, although it may be used for other installations such as, but not limited to, jacking, tunnel lining and slip-lining rehabilitation of existing pipelines.

Mark of conformityCertification Offer

ASTM D3517 is a U.S. standard recognized across North America. The BNQ is one of the only organizations that certifies products covered by the standard. The ASTM D3517 certification issued by other organizations covers fabrication procedures only. Manufacturers of glass-fiber-reinforced and thermosetting-resin pressure pipe interested in obtaining recognition that their pipe conforms to ASTM D3517certification program requirements must submit a certification application to the BNQ and show that they meet the program requirements.

General Requirements:

  • classification;
  • materials and fabrication;
  • wall composition;
  • lining and surface layer;
  • joints;
  • gaskets;
  • general appearance of pipe.

Specific Requirements:

  • fabrication quality;
  • dimensional factors;
  • integrity;
  • characteristic current;
  • stiffness;
  • hoop stress;
  • elongation strength;
  • joint tightness;
  • testing methods;
  • packaging and labelling.

This certification program is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada.
