ISO 9001

Standard ISO 9001
Quality Management Systems - Requirements

This international standard sets out generic requirements for quality management systems associated with developing products and services. It is appropriate for any company that wants to have an effective, well-run quality management system as well as products or services that meet its customers’ needs and the applicable regulatory requirements. Adopting standard ISO 9001 allows companies to assess and limit default risk and to increase their customers’ satisfaction, a key focal point. Standard ISO 9001 also gives companies greater credibility, while allowing them to position themselves on international markets. The standard was implemented by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), both involved in worldwide standardization.

Certification Offer

iso 9001Organizations that want their quality management system to be recognized can contact BNQ, whose ISO 9001 system certification program is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). To obtain certification, the organization must demonstrate to the BNQ that it meets the ISO 9001 requirements, which are based on the following three concepts: process approach, risk analysis approach, and continuous improvement.

These requirements are set out in the following chapters:

  • Context of the Organization (needs and expectations of interested parties, etc.)
  • Leadership (involvement by management, quality policy, roles and responsibilities)
  • Planning (risks and opportunities, quality objectives, planning, etc.)
  • Support (resources, competence, communication, documented information, etc.)
  • Operation (design, externally provided products and services, production, etc.)
  • Performance Evaluation (monitoring and measurement, internal audit, management review)
  • Improvement (nonconformity, corrective action, continual improvement)

There are many benefits to having your quality management system certified by the BNQ, including access to new markets, greater customer satisfaction and lower non-quality costs.

This certification program is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada.
